Corden EPS Dampguard SM
Studded-membrane system for waterproofing damp walls, floors and cellars.
What is Corden EPS Dampguard SM?
Corden EPS Dampguard SM is a system for damp and waterproofing rooms and structures. At the system’s heart is the Dampguard membrane - a studded sheet made from high density polythene. This highly impermeable plastic membrane acts as a barrier to moisture, allowing you to have a completely dry and fully versatile internal floor and wall surfaces, and so make full use of cellars, basements, or any other areas where dampness and moisture are problems.
Corden EPS Dampguard SM membranes are also suitable for use as part of a control system for ground gases such as radon and methane.
How does it work?
The Beauty of the Corden EPS Dampguard SM system is that, in internal applications, it simply does not hold back water (and thereby risk merely transferring the problem elsewhere). Instead, the studded construction of the membrane enables it to work in three ways. First it act as an effective barrier to dampness. Second it creates an air gap next to the damp surface, allowing it to breathe, and creating an air flow across it - helping to dry it out. And thirdly, Corden EPS Dampguard SM membrane provides an effective and efficient drainage system, preventing the build up of moisture.
This triple action makes Corden EPS Dampguard SM a highly efficient, convenient and cost effective way to control dampness and make the most of previously un-useable cellars and basements.
How is it used?
The membrane is unrolled with its studs against the damp surface and held in place using special sealed fixings. Joins in the membrane and any openings (for pipes etc) are made watertight with sealing tapes. gaps will sometimes be left at an edge to allow the air space behind the studs to be vented into the room, or else it may be vented into the outside atmosphere through air bricks. Where there is a great deal of moisture, or running water, a completely sealed system may be used, without vents into the room. This can be augmented with drainage gullies below the membrane. Once the membrane is in place, battens can be affixed (using seals fixings) and dry lining erected inside it.
Typical applications of Corden EPS Dampguard SM
Ventilated Systems
Allow an air flow across the surface, helping to dry it out.
-
Floors: the air gap beneath the membrane can either be vented into the room at the edges or joined to the DPC.
-
Internal Walls: providing protection from rising damp, construction moisture and external water.
-
Dry Lining: quick easy and versatile - using either plaster dabs, battens, or a free frame.
Sealed and Semi-Sealed Systems
-
Cellars and Tunnels: can be completely sealed using Dampguard membrane. Gullies or sump pumps can be used to assist drainage.
-
Wall and floor membranes: can be joined and sealed to provide protection above and below ground.
External Applications
-
External Walls & Foundations: Corden EPS Dampguard SM provides a simple way to protect foundations from damp ground whilst allowing any construction moisture to dry out.
Corden EPS Dampguard SM membranes are quick and easy to seal
A simple 3-step process is all that is needed to seal Dampguard membranes. First the membranes are aligned. Picture 1 shows the system 95 membrane which has a plain edge to make sealing even easier. Then the backing is peeled from one of the specially designed Dampguard sealers -
either Overseal Tape as shown here or one of our between-membranes sealers. Then the sealer is pressed down to leave a watertight join.
Corden EPS Dampguard SM’s sealed fixings make installation simple.
The Corden EPS range also includes a comprehensive range of special sealed fixings. These include the threaded Xmas fitting - ideal for use when dry lining, since battens can be screwed into it - as well as the brick and Thin Wall plugs. The pictures above show the head of the fixing being wrapped with a length of Corden EPS grommet seal, Prior to use - ensuring the membrane is secure and the fixing watertight.
