Car Park Decking System
A state-of-the-art system for new and refurbished car parks.
Gripdeck
The Problem
Car Parks are prone to weathering and attack from factors such as de-icing salts. Surfaces must withstand wheeled and pedestrian traffic and also motor vehicle fluids including battery acid, petrol and diesel. Ramp areas need slip/skid resistance and the structure as a whole must offer long service life with low-maintenance.
The environmental considerations of lighting and security are also important in removing the intimidating atmosphere of dark dimly lit car parks. Many MSCP’s built in the late 1960’s and 1970’s lacked this now important consideration in the design process.
For these reasons, contractors and specifiers must aim to provide a system which not only delivers the durability and flexibility to last, but which also creates a bright and modern environment that enhances the ‘Parking Experience’.
The Solution
Gripdeck is a state-of-the-art poly-urethane based system suitable for NEW and REFURBISHED car parks. It combines an effective and long lasting surface barrier protecting against the ingress of water and other contaminants with an aesthetic finish. It is suitable for use on decks and ramps, balconies and walkways, concrete and asphalt substrates. Providing good crack bridging properties, it gives excellent anti-slip properties when combined with an aggregate layer. Gripdeck is designed to meet the needs of the most demanding situations.
Typical Installation
Stage 1 - Floor Preparation
To ensure that a satisfactory bond to the substrate is achieved, the concrete must be structurally sound with a clean and dry surface, free from dust, laitence, oils, paint or other contamination. Vacuum recoverable blast tracking and similar techniques are a suitable means of achieving this.
Stage 2 - Priming
The application of GRIPDECK PRIMECOAT to the prepared concrete, screed or asphalt substrate prior to overcoating with either GRIPDECK FLEXCOAT or GRIPDECK WEARCOAT.
It is designed to give an excellent bond to the substrate and subsequent GRIPDECK coating.
Stage 3 - FlexCoat
A solvent free, polyurethane membrane, FLEXCOAT is generally applied to top decks and external ramps where movement may occur. It has crack bridging properties retaining the integrity of the coating where cracks of up to 0.5mm open up, thus preventing the ingress of water and other contaminants into the structure.
Stage 4 - Slip/Skid Resistance
Generally applied to the GRIPDECK WEARCOAT, a full or partial scatter of aggregate allows varying degrees of slip/skid resistance to be achieved.
Generally quartz aggregate is used with calcined bauxite utilised where extreme levels of abrasion resistance are required.
The aggregate is then encapsulated in the WEARCOAT to provide slip/skid resistance and a surface that is easily cleaned.
Stage 5 - Wearcoat
GRIPDECK WEARCOAT is a solvent-free polyurethane wearing course available in a wide range of colours. It has excellent resistance to a wide range of chemicals including petrol, diesel, battery acid and de-icing salts.
Stage 6. . . . and finally
Transforming the overall appearance of the car park adds to the ‘shopping experience’ and makes car parks welcoming, thus increasing traffic and revenue.
Meanwhile the GRIPDECK CAR PARK DECKING SYSTEM is providing on-going, long lasting protection to the structure ensuring maintenance is reduced and the car park is fully operational.
